Mending Michael by J.P. Grider
There is a fine line between love and hate. When Bartender Mick Ross first sees Holly Buchanan walk into Donny's Bar, his heart comes to a halt. That is, until she serves him her fake ID and reveals her true nature when she's declined her drink. Holly thinks Mick is an ass, and she has no clue why he can't stand her. Though, she does enjoy looking at his ass. So when Donny hires Holly to waitress at his bar, she must either deal with Mick's hatred toward her or give him a taste of his own medicine. Tensions are high. Comments are made. Hearts are hurt. But if there really is a fine line between love and hate, then Mick and Holly must decide on which side they stand.
This book was provided to me via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Review:

I loved this book. There's something about asshole characters falling in love that just really gets me. And when you throw in the asshole characters actually showing feelings and breaking down and having a good ol' cry well that breaks my heart and we all know the way to my heart is to break it.

Mending Michael features Michael 'Mick' Ross an asshole with some serious issues in his home life and Holiday 'Holly' Buchanan who is a junior in college and has difficulty dealing with her emotions and taking control of her life (also an asshole). The 'banter' or 'witty conversation' as I prefer to call it (seriously, I hate that word) between the two characters had me chuckling, rolling my eyes. squealing, rolling my eyes some more and then some more laughing and I LOVED it. Have I mentioned before that I love the whole 'i-hate-you-no-i-love-you' cliche?

J.P. Grider's writing style really had me falling in love with the characters and the conversations between them all were so fluid and natural that I really felt like I was hanging with my friends during some of the scenes.

Honestly, I really admired Michael for all that he was doing for Kenna (his niece who had been taken into foster care) and that he refused to let Holly into his life until he could be sure that there wouldn't always be something else in the way. Michael has his priorities right and I loved that. A lot of times in NA or even YA a lot of the characters will throw away all of their morals for love, they won't care if they're hurting the person that they supposedly love in the long run as long as they have them right then and there which is why it was refreshing to finally find a character who was so determined to fix his life at home and not selfishly drag Holly into all of his shit.

The storyline that Mending Michael centres around is a very important issue that I think needs to be touched upon more in books. The book had me wanting to cry at times because of how real it all felt and because despite the fact that Michael's life maybe wouldn't be so exaggerated in the real world all of the issues that followed Michael and Holly we're very poignant.

Mending Michael is a beautiful read. Assholes? Check. Sarcasm? Check. Motorcycles? Check. A couple that will infuriate you yet make you squeal at the same time? Check. BEAUTIFUL men? Check. The cutest little toddler you will ever read about in your life? Check.

The reason I gave this book 4/5 stars and not the full 5 is just because it fell a little flat. The story was wonderful, the characters were amazing but there wasn't the spark that I always crave in a 5/5 book.
