Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers. To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from the Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change. Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her Red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control. But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?

Does Format Really Matter?

Monday 19 January 2015

Not to be confused with 'Does Size Really Matter?' although the age old question is something I ask myself from time-to-time.

I've never really asked myself this question before, not until I found myself downloading untold amounts of free books from the iBooks store and rummaging through the books that my mum has on her kindle (yes, I did download the app and hack into her account - sue me. But just incase you're actually planning on suing me I did ask for permission. I'm not a total badass). You see the thing about e-books is that they don't totally seem real to me. I know that's a really crazy thing to say because they still have the same content as a physical book, do they not? They were still written by the same author, right? So why do I not see them as 'real'  books?

Mending Michael by J.P. Grider
There is a fine line between love and hate. When Bartender Mick Ross first sees Holly Buchanan walk into Donny's Bar, his heart comes to a halt. That is, until she serves him her fake ID and reveals her true nature when she's declined her drink. Holly thinks Mick is an ass, and she has no clue why he can't stand her. Though, she does enjoy looking at his ass. So when Donny hires Holly to waitress at his bar, she must either deal with Mick's hatred toward her or give him a taste of his own medicine. Tensions are high. Comments are made. Hearts are hurt. But if there really is a fine line between love and hate, then Mick and Holly must decide on which side they stand.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming. This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor. It wants the truth.

December Wrap Up

Tuesday 6 January 2015

December was a month of many celebrations. We had Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years Eve. Needless to say it's been a busy month between finishing off classwork, preparations for the holidays and apparently camping outside of places waiting for a certain band to show up. Yep, it's been full of sleepless nights on all accounts.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

Friday 2 January 2015

Imagine being told your whole life that if you kiss your true love, he will die. What would you do? I, for one, would run to my bedroom and cry my eyes out until I'm nothing except an empty shell of a human. Then imagine that one day a relative you've never met shows up at your door and the first words she speaks to you are 'This is the year you'll fall in love'. Blue Sargeant doesn't cry, she doesn't scream, she doesn't run away instead she goes on an adventure with the very same boy who might well be her true love and whom she might well kill one day. And that is why you should read this book.
